Local Coverage

Colorado and nearby states, including Wyoming, Montana, Kansas, Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, Oklahoma, Nebraska. Longer distance travel by prior arrangement.

Tour Coverage

Tours almost anywhere are possible, though there is no set schedule.

Services

Basic and Advanced video calibrations.

Package pricing for "whole house" calibration. Many calibration customers find the other video displays in the home become very unsatisfying after they get used to the home theater display being calibrated.

Dealer program for showroom calibrations and calibration referrals.

Audio chekup services: test speakers for proper operation including proper operation of each driver in each speaker, polarity/phase, system setup, and basic positioning help (without measurements).

Audio calibration services: measure room response for each speaker, fine-tune placement, eliminate room modes as much as possible, reduce levels of first reflections, parametric equalization of LFE channel, evaluate acoustic noise levels in the room and make recommendations to reduce noise levels where appropriate

AC Power and Power Conditioning review/recommendations: Basic (no measurements) and Advanced (with measurements).

Update Firmware for high-def disc players and other components.

My web site offers some pricing information, though most calibrations are "custom" enough that an approximate cost is probably as close as can be estimated in advance.

Credentials

Experience

Calibration is a natural extension of my 34 year career at Eastman Kodak Company. I retired in 2006 after an amazing and sometimes harrowing career that moved me from coast to coast and sent me on assignments around the world. My positions in product development teams, engineering, and the award winning customer support & field support organizations have been the best possible preparation for this calibration business. The positions I held over those 34 years involved image analysis of film, prints, computer displays, home video displays, and motion pictures. While at Kodak, I received formal training in color science and color calibration. I have worked on conventional and digital cinema programs, professional digital imaging products, consumer digital imaging products, printing & publishing imaging, 3-D imaging, optical and magnetic image storage systems, color scanners, and all types of video displays.

Extensive experience with Panasonic, Sony, Pioneer, Samsung, Sharp, Toshiba, but I support and have calibrated most brands. Hundreds of display calibrations performed. I guarantee satisfaction with my calibration wiork or will return and make it right at no charge (normal aging of displays or lamps not included, of course).

Equipment

Konica-Minolta CS-200 Chroma Meter - the "gold standard" calibration device. Accurately calibrates all types of video displays.

ColorFacts Professional

CalMAN Professional

DisplayMate MultiMedia Edition

AccuPel HDG-4000 HD/SD Video Signal Generator - the new "gold standard" video signal generator.

Profile/Bio

I was a car-crazy teen and young adult with ambitions of being a design engineer for GM. After 3 years, the reality of working for GM in the late 60s and early 70s did not live up to the dream.  I was incredibly lucky to find work at Eastman Kodak Company in the rapidly expanding field service organization and that launched me into a whirlwind of education and experience with almost every kind of imaging system imaginable. I worked on the front lines of the analog to digital imaging revolution. I retired in 2006 and we left upstate NY for sunny Colorado. It was our great escape from the gray ugly winters, high humidity, relentless bugs, and insane taxes.

I have been an audio and home theater journalist since the early 1980s, though it has been more serious since I "turned pro" in 1997. I currently write product reviews for Widescreen Review magazine, product reviews for SoundStage!, and editorials, columns, and product reviews for Home Theater & Sound.

Tracey and I have been married for 19 years. We have 2 great dogs and a touring motorcycle. Our family members are in California, Ohio, and Texas.

Additional Services & Sales

Services & Sales

I only do calibrations and system evaluation. I am not a dealer and do not sell hardware. While I don't attend CES, CEDIA or other shows every year, I have attened those shows many years, including doing "show coverage" for SoundStage!

I am HAA (Home Acoustics Alliance) trained and can perform system checkups and measurements of the audio part of home theater systems. I am also THX Video Calibration Trained and Certified.

I have extensive formal training and experience with AC Power and Power Conditioning and have professionally reviewed over 90 power conditioning products for 3 different publications. I offer an AC Power analysis and recommendation service for those who are interested.
