Around the mid-1990's, I worked at two of the nation's major electronics retailers, and I would sometimes offer customers to help set up their newly purchased home theater equipment, sometimes to help make the sale. I never asked for any compensation, but the customers often would tip me for my help.
I recognized then there was a market for this kind of service, assisting consumers in setting up their home theater systems. This is long before Geek Squad or Firedog came around.
Fast forward about fifteen years later and here I am with the company I named Optimum Sound & Vision. The name pretty much says it all. People may be happy with just getting sound and picture from their system, but not realize they may not be getting the ultimate best sound and picture.
If you're going to spend thousands of dollars on an audio/video system, would you not want to get the maximum performance it can deliver? Why settle for mediocrity when you can get excellence?
This is why I started Optimum Sound & Vision. My company specializes in audio/video system optimization and calibration, system troubleshooting and repair, consulting, and system design.
My background in audio/video goes back when I was in junior high, reading books by Hans Fantel and magazines, like Stereo Review and High Fidelity. It was pretty much all self taught. There was no formal schooling because there weren't really any educational programs offered in this field.
In high school, I was somewhat of the "audio/video handyman" and the school's sound guy. In college, I worked in professional live sound reinforcement, being a sound operator for any kind of event from single microphone set ups to full-blown music concerts.
In the early 1990's, a new industry began to develop that eventually impacted almost every corner of consumer audio/video electronics--home theater.
Presently, I am a THX Certified Professional and an ISF Certified Video Calibrator. I'm also a graduate of Sencore Academy.
My love for music and movies supplements my hobbies of audio/video and home theater electronics. I could not ask for a job I enjoy more.
