Local Coverage

Based in Scottsdale, Arizona. All Arizona major markets are available for The Real Picture consultation and calibration services.

Tour Coverage

Specialized front projection CRT set-up and maintainence is available anywhere in North America (travel is limited during the National Hockey League season). Runco, ElectroHome (Vidikron / Madrigal / Accurate Imaging), Zenith, and NEC.

Services

All facets of Display Device Calibration across all technology platforms. With the variety of instrumentation on hand and with planned additions, new wide-gamut technologies such as Sony SXRD and many fixed-pixel technologies (especially those that are LED and Laser based) which boast an extra-wide color space, these display types which challange entry-level devices are accurately calibrated.

Beware of mass-merchants or integrators that offer but do not routinely practice calibration (and use older, dated equipment) offering calibration on xvYcc products. The employed devices are likely incapable of the accurate capture of the target color coordinates, resulting in wildly variable outcomes.

Credentials

Experience

CRT set-up and maintainence since the late 1980's. I travelled throughout North America for many years on behalf of Runco service, performing set-up, repair, troubleshooting, and anlalysis for Runco and its dealers. As a Lion A/V associate for the past 5 years, the exchange of information, often times proprietary, has allowed our organization to deliver full-service calibrations throughout the US, Canada, and even foreign travel. Additional experience includes working with CRT manufacturer Accurate Imaging, hosting tradeshow presentations, sales and marketing, and field technical operations.

Equipment

All three major calibration software suites and their associated pickups / analyzers. Principally, the ISF Reference Minolta CS-200 is utilized with Colorfacts Professional (usually always a just updated beta version).

Signal sources are the Quantum Data 802b, as used by most display device manufacturers on their assembly lines. Also, the Sencore/Quantum Data 403B for less demanding applications. Monster M- Series cables are used for all interfacing.

All calibration DVDs and Laser Discs are available.

Michael pioneered the ISF use of the Sony PVM-96 and PVM-136 D65 phosphor monitors for instrument verification, and also employs Sony SMPTE-C broadcast monitors and a Runco DTV-1101 / Stewart StudioTek 130 front projector for reference use.

The Lion A/V Photo Research PR-650 is available for special requirements with advance notice.

All instrumentation is maintained via the respective manufacturer, and meets NIST ratings.

Profile/Bio

I attended the second ISF class held, in March of 1994 conducted by Joe Kane and Joel Silver, and truly confess that the fascination has never ended. With Joe and Joel as mentors, I have graduated through assisting at seminars since 1996 to lead instructor of the ISF Datacolor Seminar series held at the Lawrencville, NJ. headquarters of Colorfacts and SpyderTV manufacturer Datacolor. Lion AV president and close associate, Gregg Loewen is co-instructor.

I often assist Joel Silver at major trade shows, often with fellow calibrators Terry Paullin, Kevin Miller, and Runco's Pat Bradley...feeding off each other's passion for this industry that Joe and Joel pioneered and lending our experience and insight in training personell new to the calibration industry. In addition, the ISF conducts industry research, and I have contributed data for different projects.

Lion AV is the instruction contingent for Datacolor, and hosts Datacolors help-forums.

Continuing personal education includes attendance at the Joe Kane Advanced Signal Path seminar held at Extron in 2003, and the Jim Burns Fixed Pixel Seminar conducted at Widescreen Review Magazine in Temecula, Ca.
